The Ramsdens Family department are showing their support for Good Divorce Week 2020 by offering free 30 minute virtual advice sessions to families.

Recent statistics from the Office for National Statistics show there were 107,599 opposite-sex divorces in 2019, an increase from 90,871 in 2018. There were also 822 same-sex divorces, compared to 428 in 2018.

We are seeing an increasing number of enquiries from single parents who are confused by the apparent ever changing government guidance of social interaction due to the impact of COVID-19. A support bubble is a close support network between a household with only one adult in the home (known as a single-adult household) and one other household of any size.

​Couples seeking a no-fault divorce will have to wait until autumn 2021 despite the new divorce process being approved, subject to some minor amendments before it becomes law to allow time for careful implementation.

​For more than 30 years, there have been campaigns for no-fault divorce, a reform that will make divorce not easier, but kinder. MPs have voted today (9 June 2020) in favour of the latest stage of the Divorce, Dissolution and Separation Bill which, when passed, will finally end the requirement for couples to assign fault in order to be granted a divorce.

In the recent landmark case of RC v JC, the Solicitor wife who decided to start a family with her husband and walk away from her prospects of becoming a partner in a law firm, has been awarded £400,000 in her divorce settlement.
