At Ramsdens we firmly believe our people are our greatest asset and this is reflected in the time and care we invest in our trainees, we are passionate about their development offering a supportive, collaborative and inclusive culture.
So it should come as no surprise to learn that we look to attract and retain the best candidates for our Training Contracts. We expect candidates to have ambition, drive and motivation for their own career and for the future of Ramsdens and our culture allows trainees to turn passions into careers, which is one of the reasons our lawyers remain with us for such a long time.
Whilst we place emphasis on a strong academic background (requiring three A-Levels BBB+ together with a minimum 2:1 and have completed LPC on commencement of the Training Contract (or equivalent)), we firmly believe that our trainees need to have more to offer than good grades.
We expect a positive “can do” attitude, commercial awareness along with a real passion for law, and a determination to succeed.
Over the two years our trainees experience four seats from the following departments: Child Care, Clinical/Medical Negligence, Commercial Property, Corporate, Court of Protection, Employment, Family, Litigation, Personal Injury, Private Client and Residential Conveyancing.
Trainees are involved in client matters straight away, with constant support and supervision guiding them through. A review process has been designed to provide valuable feedback on progress, with a view to maximising everyone’s performance and allowing trainees to take ownership of their own development.
We encourage networking and have plenty of opportunities to represent the firm at careers’ events, participate in events at local schools, colleges and universities as well as attending social events.

I am enjoying the responsibility and variety of work as well as adapting to working ‘virtually’ including meeting with clients via video call and finding alternative ways to prepare and sign documents than we are used to. Within my first seat in the family department, I find it extremely rewarding knowing that I am helping people through a difficult time in their lives which is only worsened by lockdown. I have found that a positive, can-do attitude is vital and that my confidence has grown significantly given the support that I have received. We are encouraged to be involved with as many networking and charity events as possible as well as participating in webinars and tutorials to help us continue our development and increase our skill set. I am really enjoying my time in the family department but also looking forward to my next seat to learn other areas of law and to continue to learn pro-actively.”

Having started my first seat in the Private Client department I have been given an increased level of responsibility over a vast array of files as well as experiencing an increased level of client contact. Gaining experience in a new area of law has also opened my eyes to the importance of managing client expectations, particularly regarding Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney, both of which carry a high level of importance due to the current coronavirus situation.”
