There could be a number of reasons why you want to change who is registered as the legal owner of a property. The most common changes occur when somebody gets divorced or someone dies:
If you want to transfer ownership of a property to another party, the AP1 form should be completed. If the entire property is going to be transferred to new owners, the TR1 form should also be completed and filed with the Land Registry.
If the property is owned by two parties as joint tenants and one party dies, the surviving owner will become the sole legal owner of the property. However, if there are no surviving owners, the transfer will happen as part of the probate process.
Speaking to a solicitor will help you to determine the appropriate next steps for your circumstances. Our transfer of title solicitors are more than happy to help answer any questions you may have.
