Dignity Action Day #DAD2020 takes place this Saturday on 1st February. It is an annual opportunity for health and social care workers to uphold individuals’ rights to dignity.

Dignity In Care has focused in ‘The 10 Dignity Do’s’, which are to:

  1. Have a zero tolerance of all forms of abuse
  2. Support people with the same respect you would want for yourself or a member of your family
  3. Treat each person as an individual by offering a personalised service
  4. Enable people to maintain the maximum possible level of independence, choice and control
  5. Listen and support people to express their needs and wants
  6. Respect people's right to privacy
  7. Ensure people feel able to complain without fear of retribution
  8. Engage with family members and carers as care partners
  9. Assist people to maintain confidence and positive self-esteem
  10. Act to alleviate people's loneliness and isolation.

Our experienced Abuse Team too often sees vulnerable parties becoming victims of abuse at the hands of those who have a duty to care for them. These vulnerable parties include the elderly, those who lack capacity and children. We are therefore championing #DAD2020 to raise awareness of the 10 Dignity Do’s, and what society as a whole can be doing to protect these vulnerable people.

If you or someone you know has not been treated with dignity, our Abuse team at Ramsdens Solicitors can investigate this to determine whether a breach of Human Rights has occurred. Alternatively, we can investigate a negligence claim against a Local Authority, hospital or care home which may have failed to uphold its duty of care.

If anything we have discussed has affected you and you think you may have a claim and wish to speak in confidence, please contact our team of experienced solicitors today on 0113 887 1834 or complete our contact form to book a free information session at any of our offices.
