A well respected lawyer, with an excellent client base, Richard's role is now primarily in client retention and development, though he remains actively involved as part of the Commercial Property team.

Richard specialises in:

  • Commercial Property, including wind turbine leases

What are your career highlights so far?

  • Acting for a multinational group dealing with JV agreements, equipment leases and commercial litigation.
  • Acting for a leisure group in site acquisitions and leases.
  • Acting for a bereaved family in a high profile inquest which attracted major news, TV and other media attention.
  • Acting for a UK based company in the drafting of international distribution and ancillary agreements.
  • Acting in the negotiation and drafting of multiple wind turbine leases throughout the UK.
  • Representing a client  in a multi million pound corporate dispute against a foreign investor.
  • Acting for a lady who had been in institutions providing care for people with learning difficulties for most of her life. The lady in question now lives independently (albeit with a care package in place) in her own home, holds down a part time job and is living her life to the full. Richard is still messaged weekly for help with crossword clues!

What is one legal myth that you’d love to dispel?

"All lawyers are rich fat cats. Whilst it is true that some lawyers earn significant sums, many do not. Legal aid lawyers in particular are paid at a level that many simply would not believe."

What made you want to work in your sector?

"In truth, I wanted to be an engineer. I was talked out of it at school and given the option of law or medicine. Once I started in practice I realised it was the profession for me. For a large part of my career I was a general practitioner and enjoyed the variety of work types and the challenges they presented. I have enjoyed becoming an integral part of many clients’ business and taking the role of trusted advisor. Client confidence and knowing I am making a difference means a great deal."
