On Saturday 24 July, Alice Higham and Zoe Cross from Ramsdens Solicitors’ York office, took to the skies to raise money for York based children’s charity, The Island.
The duo harnessed fear and jumped out of a plane from 15,000 ft to freefall for 1 minute at 125mph, raising a fantastic £830 for the charity.
The Island is a charity in York providing islands of space and time for vulnerable children and young people; building confidence, self-esteem and unlocking potential through positive mentoring relationships and unique programmes.
In York, over 3,500 children live in poverty, which is almost seven times higher than the national average. Through positive mentoring, unique programmes and unwavering support, our much-loved children's charity (The Island) supports vulnerable and isolated children and young people, and encourages them to realise their potential.
Commenting on why they chose to raise money for The Island, Zoe and Alice commented: "We have chosen this charity as it provides mentoring programmes for York children and young people experiencing difficulties with their mental, emotional and/or social wellbeing.
Nigel Poulton, CEO at The Island, commented: "Definitely a 'high skydive five' to both Zoe and Alice for not only raising so much money for The Island, but also for overcoming their nerves by jumping out of the plane! Thank you, Zoe and Alice, as this money shall enable us to support and make a real difference in the lives of so many children and young people. We are so grateful and again admire your courage in completing the skydive."
