Joanne Coen

Joanne is the Senior Partner and Head of our Child Law department, having joined Ramsdens Solicitors through the merger of Whitfield Hallam Goodall in 2010.  she boasts over 30 years experience in child and family law proceedings and has been an accredited children panel member for 25 years.

Joanne has developed and headed our Child Law department for over 15 years, seeing its growth consistently increase and mature to one of the most significant teams in West and North Yorkshire. In addition to Joanne’s oversight of the strategy of the firm and ensuring efficiencies in operations, Joanne has always insisted that she continue to represent children through instructions from Cafcass to aid her ability to best understand the needs of the department whilst maintaining excellent client care. Joanne has provided training to family magistrates and contributes to the Leeds Family Justice Board.

Joanne’s Achievements include:

• She is a member of the Law Society’s Children’s Panel (for over 20 years) and is a trained Collaborative lawyer
• Joanne is a recommended lawyer in The Legal 500, 2026.
• Joanne was nominated in the Yorkshire Women of Achievement Awards 2015, Northern Power Women Awards 2017 and was a finalist in the Yorkshire Legal Awards 2017, Family category
• Heads up one of the few firms in England and Wales to have a Significant Child Law team to have reached ‘Tier 2’ in the Legal 500

• Representing children, parents and other relatives in public law proceedings involving social services – known as care proceedings
• Instructions of adoption
• Special guardianship cases
