The Civil Partnership Act 2004
You can form a civil partnership with another person if you are over 18, not related, and not already married or in a civil partnership. Civil partnerships are available for both same-sex and opposite-sex couples.
Once registered, the Act grants partners many rights and responsibilities towards each other during the relationship and upon its end, either through separation or death. Civil partners enjoy many of the same rights and exemptions as married couples.
Pre-Civil Partnership Agreements
Some couples opt for a Pre-Civil Partnership Agreement, outlining the agreed terms in case the partnership ends. While not legally binding, Courts will often uphold these agreements as long as they are deemed fair.
Our team of compassionate and expert family lawyers are here to help you navigate the legal aspects of civil partnerships, ensuring your rights and interests are protected every step of the way.
