Legal Assistant/Paralegal – Various offices

This is an ideal position for an LPC student, initially working as an Assistant but progressing to a Paralegal. The successful candidate must demonstrate a positive "can do" attitude, together with a desire to learn and get the job done. The role will involve working as part of a team and providing general support, flexibility is key as you may be required to assist across more than one team and/or department as the need arises. You will be a team player able to work under supervision, yet also capable of taking responsibility and using your initiative, a good communicator and possess excellent IT skills. Our clients are central to the business, and we would be looking for someone who understands the importance of putting clients and the quality of service first.

The main responsibilities of the role may include:

  • To prepare correspondence and documents through audio-typing and word processing.
  • Administration of client files, which will include daily filing and the opening, closing, storage and retrieval of files in accordance with the detailed procedures contained on the Intranet.
  • To keep filing up to date and ensure that files are tidy and lexcel compliant.
  • To prepare mail and enclosures for dispatch.
  • Open new client files and input information on system.
  • To attend clients both in person and on the telephone and to provide such support in a professional and friendly manner in keeping with the firm’s standards for client care.
  • Endeavour to resolve client queries where applicable without fee earner intervention and pass any urgent and/or outstanding issues to the fee earner for guidance.
  • To keep dictation up to date within agreed timescales and advise when outside of timescale – to be agreed with individual fee earner.
  • Demonstrate a proactive attitude towards continuous improvement and development.
  • To develop a full working knowledge of inhouse IT systems.
  • Conduct of matters on behalf of clients.
  • Ensure that all client work is progressed expeditiously
  • At all times exercise high standards of client care in a professional and pleasant manner
  • Working to achieve individual or departmental fee targets in line with the firm’s business plan
  • Ensuring compliance with quality control procedures for all matters within his/her control.
  • Ensure the confidentiality and security of all of the firm’s and client documentation and information
  • General assistance and support in the department
