The 101st Tour de France is coming to Yorkshire this weekend for its starting stages, and the county is abuzz with cycling fever. The international cycling competition, made up of 21 stages, will cover a total distance of 3,664 kilometres.

As cycling enthusiasts, the Ramsdens team is looking forward to seeing the world renowned Tour de France pass through Yorkshire. This year sees the Grand Départ take place in Leeds for the first time ever on Saturday 5th July, and the competition's second stage will start in York on Sunday 6th July.

All eyes will be on Mark Cavendish as he competes on his home turf, just a stone's throw away from where he used to live. Despite his multiple accomplishments, Cavendish has not yet claimed the Yellow Jersey. He faces tough competition for the prize from Albeto Contador, Richie Porte and Chris Froome

Locals can expect to see cyclists racing through various Yorkshire towns and cities, such as Harrogate, Huddersfield, Holmfirth, Calderdale and Holmbridge.

Spectator hubs and fan parks are conveniently located across the Stage 1 and 2 routes. You can watch the caravan parade and see the riders battle it out for the Yellow Jersey amongst the spectacular scenery. If you can't make it to a roadside location, there will be big screens displaying all the action.

Many locations in Yorkshire will be hosting street festivals all weekend, with a whole host of cycling fun, music, food and events going on for all the family to enjoy.

Wakefield's The Hepworth will host a whole weekend of free family cycling fun, including the creation of a giant piece of art viewable from the air, film screenings and the chance to test your skills by pedalling as fast as you can to power a Scalextric track.

Honley village centre will play host to a good old-fashioned Yorkshire Street Festival with food, crafts and amazing acts performing within the grounds of Honley Cricket Club. Meanwhile, Kirklees will be taken over by playful surprises, including sculptures, light displays and an outdoor gallery.

We're also getting involved in the Tour de France celebrations and showing our appreciation for the world of cycling with our yellow Ramsdens bicycles that you'll find dotted around the cycling route, keep your eyes peeled for them and see our #teamWakefield below donning #yellow today!
