Ramsdens Solicitors’ Trainees are raising money for the Yorkshire Children’s Centre to fund a Christmas lunch for elderly people experiencing isolation and loneliness in Kirklees.

Yorkshire Children’s Centre provides various services for vulnerable adults with the aim to help reduce loneliness and isolation.

Loneliness – a reality for so many

The Kirklees Joint Strategic Needs Assessment 2017 found that 60% of people in Kirklees aged over 75 live alone.

One of the services provided by YCC to the elderly is the ‘It’s Only Me’ Befriending Service. This Service aims is to encourage people to be socially active and to build happier and stronger relationships. The Service will be re-launching in Kirklees in November 2017.

What is the Befriending Service?

The Service matches the wonderful volunteer Befrienders with the adults experiencing loneliness or isolation. The Befrienders then visit them in their own homes for company and conversation. Sometimes they sit and chat over a cup of tea, or they may play board games or go out to a cafe or to local shops. Befriending helps with the all round health and well being of individuals.

This service is open to referrals from any local organisation, including Gateway to Care, Social Services and Carers Count. In addition, people can self-refer and families/neighbours are also welcome to refer.

What can we do to help

Our trainee solicitors are fundraising to provide the adults and Befrienders of the Service in Kirklees with a Christmas lunch to be held at the Yorkshire Children’s Centre in December 2017 as part of Ramsdens #12daysofcharity at Christmas. They will also be fundraising to provide gifts for those that are unable to attend the lunch.

The trainee solicitors will then be attending the Christmas lunch to assist with hosting, service of the dinner and having a chit chat with the guests.

The lunch will consist of a three course meal and entertainment for the guests. The trainee solicitors are very excited and passionate about the Befriending Service and would be incredibly grateful for any donations….after all it is Christmas!!
