New figures have shown that almost half of the children involved with the Local Authority are victims of domestic violence. This is a very upsetting and shocking fact.

A recent report by the BBC shows the problems faced by children who are involved with the Social Services. These include:

  • 49.6% faced domestic violence
  • 36.6% had mental health problems
  • 19.3% had drug abuse issues
  • 18.4% alcohol abuse issues
  • 17.5% faced neglect
  • 6.4% sexual abuse
  • 1.2% were involved with gangs
  • 0.6% were unaccompanied asylum seekers
  • 0.3% were victims of child trafficking

Quite rightly, the NSPCC has reported these figures as “troubling”.

Unfortunately, these figures show that there is a real issue that must be addressed and children involved with the Social Services are going through extremely tough times which is likely to affect them in adulthood and later life.

The overall number of children deemed to be "in need" by social services across England in March 2016 was 394,000.
