Trainees volunteering at Yorkshire Children’s Centre

The trainee solicitors at Ramsdens are proud to be working with the Yorkshire Children’s Centre (YCC) and will be starting by volunteering at the newly named Jo Cox House in Batley to help with the decorating and painting of the centre.

The YCC was founded by Brian Jackson in 1974 under the name of National Children’s Centre as a centre focussing on finding solutions to social problems. Mr Jackson’s vision has grown into a large network hub of projects and services to support the community. The charity aims for a future where children, young people, adults, families and older people can achieve their full potential. The YCC provide an array of support and facilities for the local community from the child contact centre, support for dementia, the men’s shed, bike library and education for teens at the Brian Jackson College in Heckmondwike. The YCC have a centre in Huddersfield and Batley and can provide meeting rooms and office space for hire. Please have a visit of their website for further information.

The YCC recently renamed their premises in Batley as Jo Cox House in memory of the Labour MP for Batley and Spen that was devastatingly taken from us in June 2016. Jo Cox House provides facilities, access to information and services for older people in Batley and the surrounding areas who are feeling isolated or alone. The renaming of the building pays tribute to Jo Cox and her campaign to tackle loneliness across all ages.

The trainees have arranged for a group from Ramsdens to take time away from their desks and the courts to attend Jo Cox House to provide a full day of painting and support to the YCC. This charity appealed to Ramsdens due to the importance of contact centres for families during family disputes and the inspiring and positive impact that the services and support have on our community. The trainees are keen to get involved with the varied and wonderful work that the YCC undertake for our local community and hope to make a positive impact.
